A dinosaur stomped on muddy ground about 70 million years ago, on land on which Moshav Beit Zayit is now situated, seven kilometers west of Jerusalem, and imprints of the prehistoric creature’s three sharp claws are still visible.
The Kastel’s location made it a place of immense strategic importance for thousands of years. The Crusaders also understood this importance. They surrounded Jerusalem with settlements and fortresses, to defend the access routes to the city.
Abu Ghosh is a very old village, dating back more than 6000 years.
During Old Testament times, the place was known as Kiryat Yearim, and it served as an important Jewish ceremonial center, where the Ark of the Covenant was housed.
The settlement known as Mt. Adar was established 30 years ago in the historical Radar Hill compound, where hard-fought battles took place during Israel’s War of Independence.
